The honorary Doctorate of Business Administration (DBA, hon.) is the highest academic recognition the California International Business University (CIBU) can bestow. Candidates for these degrees should have demonstrated in their life and in their work high standards of excellence as evidenced by scholarship or creative activity; by professional development and achievement; by public service to the world, the nation, the state, or the community; in wholehearted commitment to the development of the CIBU.
The following individuals have been awarded an Honorary Doctorate Degree:
2011 – Thelma Press
Mrs. Press was born in Darjeeling, India and attended school at Loreto College where one of her teachers was Mother Teresa. Thelma has received over 62 awards including an award from the Mayor and City of Tachikawa, Japan. Mrs. Press is currently a Director of the Board for the Japanese Friendship Garden in Balboa Park, First Vice-President of the San Diego/Yokohama Sister Cities Society and a member of the Asian Arts Council of San Diego.
2011 – Iwao Tomita
Mr. Tomita was born in Kanagawa Prefecture, and was raised in Tokyo. Mr. Tomita served as an instructor and lieutenant in the Navy for almost a decade before returning to school, attending the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania where he received an MBA. Mr. Tomita brought many unique practices to the world of accounting over the years and was appointed by the Ministry of Finance as a member of the Corporate Accounting Deliberation Board to improve Japanese accounting.
2010 – Zhengfang Wang
Chairman Wang was educated at Hunan Normal University, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree. He earned his Master’s of Science degree at Jinan University and his Master of Business Administration at the University of Hull Business Institute UK.
Currently, Mr. Wang serves as Executive Director of Guangdong Pearl River Investment Holding Group and Chairman of Pearl River Education Group. He is a leading expert in Chinese higher education and the world of business and commerce.
2010 – Bob Taylor
Bob Taylor is a visionary acoustic guitar maker, a world-class expert in manufacturing, and a passionate guitar enthusiast. As an adolescent, Bob entered industrial arts competitions at state fairs, earning several awards. After graduating in 1973, he found a job making guitars at a small shop in Lemon Grove, California, called, prophetically, the American Dream
Over the next 35 years, Taylor and Listug would make history, becoming the only American luthiers (guitar makers) in the 20th Century to grow an acoustic guitar company from two-man shop to production-level manufacturer without relinquishing ownership or creative control. The company currently completes over 300 guitars each day, and employs over 500 people.
2009 – Antoinette Klute-Wetterauer
Antoinette Klute-Wetterauer is one of the pioneers of Germany’s private higher education sector. She is the founder, and was President for many years of the International University of Applied Sciences Bad Honnef · Bonn, the first English-speaking university for service-management in Germany. Motivated by her vision for ‘global education’, with a holistic offer of educational programs for young adults, Ms. Klute-Wetterauer founded ANGELL Akademie Freiburg, which has become the leading institute and model for innovative and industry-focused vocational, tourism, and event management programs.
2008 – Jason Dahl
Captain Jason Dahl graduated from San Jose State University in 1980 with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering and joined United Airlines in 1984. In 1993, Cpt. Dahl became a “standards” pilot, who trained and tested other pilots. With commitment to his role as a leader at United airlines and a mentor to his peers, Jason made a powerful impression and left his unique signature on all whom he touched. Until his death on September 11, 2001, Cpt. Dahl lived with his wife, Sandy, and son, Matthew, in Denver, Colorado.
2008 – Mark Hoog
Apart from being a captain for United Airlines, Captain Mark Hoog is the founder and Executive Director of the Children’s Leadership Institute, a non-profit organization in Colorado. Inspired by the loss of his friend and mentor, Jason Dahl, Mark authored the Growing Field children’s personal growth and leadership book series.
2004 – Jerry Kaplan Ph.D.
As a serial entrepreneur, Jerry Kaplan is widely credited with a number of inventions and patents, including online auctions (as a founder of Onsale.com), and pen computers (as a founder of GO Corporation). He is perhaps best known for his bestselling non-fiction novel, Startup: A Silicon Valley Adventure. Jerry holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Pennsylvania. He is currently the CEO of Winster.com.
2003 – Robert Greenburg, M.D.
Dr. Greenburg has had 35 years of experience in Obstetrics and Gynecology and has served on the clinical faculty of the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. As of 1995, Dr. Greenburg has conducted surgical missions to developing and emerging nations and developed an integrated model to implement humanitarian projects by combining women’s cancer care programs with infrastructure building and economic development throughout the world.
Dr. Greenburg holds a Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Illinois, Chicago and is currently the Director of Continuing Medical Education for the VA Eastern Kansas Health Care Systems.
2003 – Phillip “Po” Bronson
Po Bronson has built a career both as a successful novelist and as a prominent writer of narrative nonfiction. He has published five books, including the widely acclaimed What Should I Do With My Life, and he has written for television, magazines, and newspapers, including Time,The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal, and for National Public Radio’s Morning Edition. Currently he is writing regularly for New York magazine in the United States and for The Guardian newspaper in the United Kingdom. You can read about him here.
