Pl0gbar is the description for a group of people, who are meeting on a regular basis in different cities all around in Germany and Austria. These people meet to talk about the newest web stuff, new media marketing projects, different blog topics, about the newest products, for instance products from apple and so on. In short, these people are web addicted and organise these meetings in order to talk about several topics, projects and products regarding everything what is about the World Wide Web. It is a special kind of social network where people can connect, make new friends, meet like-minded people and share their ideas, attitudes and any web news. Pl0gbar has already 640 members in Germany and is enjoying a growing popularity. Everyone can join Pl0gbars, regardless of age, social status, occupation, company et cetera. Pl0gbar meetings are especially useful for companies because they can promote and share information about new products and services. Pl0gbar is already operating on several other famous social network platforms such as facebook and twitter, where members can share the experiences of the meetings and set up comments and pictures on the discussed topics.
In my opinion on the one hand the idea of Pl0gbar is good because people can finally meet other like-minded people in person instead of sharing everything online and anonymous. This makes a huge difference to all these other network platforms where people just descend into a virtual world forgetting about reality. On the other hand the question is if we really need the development of a further network just like Pl0gbar only with the difference that you can meet the people in person. Are there not already thousands of other networks working similar? People should rather take care of not becoming so web addicted. In the Pl0gbar meetings the topics are only about any stuff regarding the web. How can people not suffer from being out of touch with reality by using so many network platforms (e.g. facebook, twitter, xing, studivz, localisten, werkenntwen, etc.) to be always up-to-date and in addition to this also Pl0gbar with its meetings with only like-minded people and always the same scheme of topics?
At least but not last I want to give a thought-provoking impulse: Does we really need these huge and crazy variety of social online network platforms in our life? After spending the most of your time with social network platforms, blogging and sharing attitudes with virtual friends, do you really want to meet in a so-called Pl0gbar in the evening your virtual friends and continue talking and thinking about the same stuff you already did the whole day? Furthermore, did anyone of you make any true and loyal friends there? Since all this started only some years ago is it not just a crazy hype, which steals our time and let us forget about real things in life?
